Travis and Jonah first met on October 6, 2017, after matching each other on Tinder. Perhaps that mutual swipe-right was fate: both Travis and Jonah had attended Harvard Law School at the same time a decade earlier, and even lived in the same dorm—but had never met each other. Apparently the universe (aided by Silicon Valley) wanted to give them another chance to find each other.
Their first date was at Quality Italian in Midtown Manhattan, where they shared the famous Chicken Parm Pizza and closed down the restaurant. There, they both admitted that they had cyber-stalked each other and each already knew that the other had been on Jeopardy! They bonded over their various nerdy hobbies, love of foreign languages, and shared disappointment that "Marven Gardens" is misspelled "Marvin [sic]" on the Monopoly board. And they never looked back.
Soon came memorable shared trips to Aruba, Spain, Costa Rica, Punta Cana, Belgium/Amsterdam, Greece, Chile/Argentina, Dublin, Austin, L.A., and Vegas. Travis moved in with Jonah in the Upper West Side in January 2020, just in time for COVID-19 to strike and strand them at home together. They survived the pandemic with their relationship not just intact, but stronger than ever—joined by Linus the Labrador in September 2020.
Their friend circles intertwined and became some kind of friend Moebius strip. Many episodes of Friends, Jeopardy!, The Great British Baking Show, and Selling Sunset were watched. Lots of online trivia was played. They attended concerts by Lady Gaga, Bananarama, and Cher (twice)—but also NFL games, NHL games, and Duke basketball games. Travis came to grudgingly accept the superiority of the Bengals over the Ravens (just kidding!).
Travis and Jonah became joint homeowners in July 2021, when they decamped from Manhattan to the hinterlands of DUMBO, Brooklyn. Travis popped the question in their Brooklyn home in October 2022, with a beautiful Tiffany ring (and an assist from Linus, who carried the accompanying card). Jonah reciprocated by offering Travis the only ring he had in his possession at the time: an onion ring. Fortunately, Travis accepted it, despite his well-known dislike for onions.
The couple are looking forward to many, many more years of adventures, shenanigans, and general nerdery—and to celebrating with all of you in August 2024.
